Michael's Miracles

Yesterday, a dear friend (“N”… below) sent me this brief exchange she had online…

*********************************************

L: The difference between Jesus Christ and Michael Jackson are many, most specifically, miracles. I don't think Michael turned water into wine, fed thousands with a few loaves and fishes, raised the dead, caused the blind to see, walked on water, quieted a storm just by speaking, etc.

N: The interesting thing about your example, is if you take Jesus' miracles and translate them into metaphorical symbols, they can be applied to Michael.

Turn water into wine = inspire blissful joy through creation of music and dance (watch the reaction in the crowds)

Fed thousands with a few loaves = huge revenue drawn from record sales and concerts being used to assist the sick and needy by Michael.

Raised the dead and caused the blind to see = Awakened thousands if not millions who were spiritually dead/blind and are now awake and alive (me included)

Walked on water = Overcame the most oppressive of obstacles, insults and injuries thrown at him to rise above and persevere with grace and dignity

Quieted a storm just by speaking = soothed so many sick and dying children in their worst of pain (think of Ryan White)

L: I see your metaphorical point, but "miracle" is generally defined to be an event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God. In each of your examples above, there's a readily explainable cause and effect that makes them not miracles, per se. Doesn't make them less wonderful; just not miracles.

N: Of course, these examples don't meet the dictionary definition of "miracle", but when I saw your list of Jesus' miracles, the list immediately sparked for me the symbolic references to Michael's life, which is why I described it as "interesting". It is fascinating to me to ponder these kinds of things. Your use of the list of miracles to highlight how Michael was different from Jesus only caused me to instantly see even more similarities. Jesus calls us to live a Christ-like existence. Michael sets so many examples.

This got me thinking…and without going into whether or not the miracles in the Bible were symbolism or actual events, could any of Michael’s accomplishments be viewed as the ‘dictionary version” of a miracle? As “L” stated above, the dictionary definition of miracle is “an event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature, and so held to be supernatural in origin, or an act of God."

Did Michael accomplish anything that no one ever has, or ever will? Was He able to do things that all others were incapable of? Things that are pretty much outside the realm of human possibility... making them, in effect, supernatural....an act of God??? “Interesting” indeed….

Yes, Siren, miracles come in many different shapes and sizes and forms ... from complete healings to just forgetting for a couple of hours that you are ill ... from being handed a sno-cone by a chimp to watching an elephant chomp a watermelon ... from viewing a mountain for the first time to closing your eyes and knowing that there is an angel who cares about you. Michael's miracles are, in many cases, yet to be revealed. But a few have been given some exposure ... like the story of Danielle whose family spent some time at Neverland and later found that Danielle's cancer was GONE ... and the story of Gavin Arvizo whose cancer disappeared after spending time at Neverland Valley with Michael and later turned on him with a vengeance. I pray that more and more of Michael's miracles will be shown as time progresses. That they are out there I have no doubt whatsoever!
