The Things Of God

Over the last few days, I have had the opportunity to revisit Siren’s Muse . In the early moments of my Michael journey, I spent many hours on these pages... contemplating, scrambling, and pouring out my heart. As time passed, I found myself writing less and less. Not because Michael had begun to fade from my life, but simply because the sheer beauty of Him finally began to silence me . I had expressed a lot over the years - mostly just irrelevant ramblings with probably not much humility. It was time to stop talking.

Rereading old posts has been enlightening for me. First of all, it is very confirming of my faith to see the real life changes in the person that I was, to the one I am becoming. There is nothing miraculous about these changes. They are merely the result of hard work and my desire to live Michael’s example. Still, there is one musing that I am continually awed by… What was it about Michael that shook me from my comfortable life, turned my gaze inward and filled me with the desire to change?

If you had asked me this back in, say, 2011, I would have gone on with some long winded theory about Michael’s Divinity in some kind of mystical context. And while it is true that Michael really is a supernatural experience, it is certainly not the point of anything. What is important is His life. Michael’s humanity. Everything we ever need to know about Love can be witnessed in Him. His example is astonishing, not because He was ‘other’ than us, but because He was exactly the same. There is nothing particularly miraculous about God doing human things. But a man doing the things of God - now that is something else. How could we possibly believe in perfection of the human spirit if the only one who ever accomplished it was a deity in human form?

Michael’s life seemed otherworldly in circumstance and stardom. It’s easy to forget His humanness in this glorified context. But it was only ever us that lost touch with His reality. Meanwhile, Michael was living out the merciless depths of human vulnerability in full view of the entire world.

This was our opportunity to witness the grace of Perfection. And while it seems that would be a difficult thing to miss in the backdrop of our world, Perfection is a word that spans two different realms. In the mind, it is imagined to be a state of flawlessness, but in the reality of the soul, only Love has the final say. Regardless of our circumstance, reason or ability, all that Perfection ever requires is that we choose from a place of Love. How does Love respond when it sees a suffering child? What does the embodiment of Love look like when it’s dancing? How does Love inspire joy and uplift the hearts of others? And what does Love do when it is accused of heinous things?

So then what does this mean for me, who’s soul is invested in Michael’s Divinity? Actually, I have never been more convinced of it in my life . I just realize that theorizing does nothing to bring me closer to Him. If I want to know what God is, I simply look at Michael’s life.

Love is patient
Love is kind
It does not envy
It does not boast
It is not proud
It does not dishonour others
It is not self-seeking
It is not easily angered
It keeps no record of wrongs
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the Truth
It always protects
Always trusts
Always hopes
Always perseveres
Love never fails
